| Lex has extensive educational and institutional project experience and is able to bring together large and diverse groups to solve complex and challenging issues for the built environment. His work has received numerous awards regionally. As a native Floridian from Tampa Bay, Lex is keenly aware of the unique issues present with our climate and environment. Lex is the Design Principal-in-Charge and responsible for the Design Excellence of all projects with Long & Associates. Lex is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional and has demonstrated his Green Building Design Skills on several projects, including the Flagship Library West Expansion and Powell Structures Lab, both at the University of Florida. He is a Florida Registered Architect, Florida Registered Interior Designer, and a Florida Certified General Contractor, NCARB member, an active member of the American Institute of Architects, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) among others. Lex was appointed to the Hillsborough County Historical Resources Review Board in 2005 and currently sits as chairman. Lex received his Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Florida in 1990. Earning his Master of Architecture in 1992 from Clemson University, he was the recipient of the Henry Adams Award for Design Excellence from the AIA. Lex spent 6 months studying abroad at the Daniel Center for Urban Planning in Genoa, Italy as a part of the Clemson program. His work has been published and included in the City Arts Series at Nations Bank Plaza in association with the South Carolina Arts Commission, as well as receiving numerous awards from the Hillsborough Planning Commission, American Schools & Universities, Florida Educational Facilities Planners Association and other regional groups. He has been a guest architectural critic and speaker for the St. Petersburg College Architectural Program for which he is an alumnus, and the University of Florida College of Engineering. Lex is an accomplished musician and plays the guitar. Lex has 2 children and resides in northwest Hillsborough County. |
