Our commissions are large and small, public and private, new and historic. We have no pre-conceptions and no single style. We seek only what is appropriate to our clients and go out of our way to enhance existing conditions. Our work is devoted to the pursuit of responsible and sensitive design as we are governed by appropriateness and context. In some cases our designs are bold, intimate in others. The diversity of styles evident in our work represents a range of responses to client requirements, not a variety of views about architecture. We work closely with our clients utilizing the "Charette" process of three phases of Analysis, Options and Design to insure the Owner's/User's input, needs and concerns are addressed throughout the design process. As a result, we are known for quality design that starts with thoughtful strategic planning and ends with quality construction. We offer each project the qualities of "firmness, commodity and delight" promoting a technical soundness, program functionality and an integrated architectural beauty.
To ensure that consensus is reached at each stage, client review periods are included in our work schedules following each major phase. During these periods, the client can confer with others and provide additional responses to the team. Since work will proceed to the next stage only when consensus is reached, work on subsequent tasks can be properly focused, and there is a shared understanding of the goals throughout the entire project.
Consensus building is an interactive process, and the concerns of each client and related parties must be carefully considered. We are known for our ability to communicate and listen, and we believe that these skills have contributed significantly to our success in implementing projects of all scopes.
Long & Associates offers a full line of mechanical engineering services from basic plumbing and air conditioning design to the most complex needs, such as laboratories, containment facilities, cleanrooms, heat recovery, and large scale air conditioning and utility systems.
We have considerable experience in the retrofit of large mechanical systems and in meeting strict air quality requirements. Our approach to every project is to work with the client's personnel. With their input and expertise, the most appropriate system for the individual project is designed regardless of industry wide trends.
Long & Associates has been a leader in the application of computer technology related to structural engineering design. We have the capability to effectively design the simplest to the most complex project. We were among the area's first to analyze structures utilizing finite element analysis.
Our in-house team of professionals has over 100 years combined experience and diversity in structural design from bridges to 30+ story hotels and office buildings of all types.
Our in-house specialty structural steel detailing department can save the owner weeks, even months, on the schedule. The process of steel detailing can begin during design, long before the CM/Contractor puts out the bid - especially valuable for fast track projects.
Long & Associates steel detailing experience has included work from the industrial, corporate, health care, commercial, K-12, university, hospitality, restaurant, religious, sports, and theme park industries.
Fire protection engineering involves the integration of architecture and the various engineering disciplines to protect human life and preserve the built environment. Issues addressed are life safety, detection, alarm and suppression.
We offer project specific design services in addition to the following:
Automatic Sprinkler System Design
Fire Detection & Alarm System Design
Non-ozone Depleting Suppression System Design
Fire Pump and Controller Design
Life Safety Code Analysis
We are finding more and more that our clients seek the safety and cost benefits associated with an integrated fire protection design. Having Fire Protection design in-house allows us to integrate this discipline with intention rather than an afterthought and allows us to offer our clients the benefits and cost advantages to integrating such design.
Environmental issues have become a key concern for all organizations involved with real estate properties, building construction, project financing and facilities management. We perform comprehensive consulting services to find cost-effective solutions to a variety of environmental work, such as asbestos abatement or indoor air quality improvement through HVAC and/or building envelope modifications. Other in-house disciplines are used to provide the client with one-source comprehensive problem solving.
For the past 15 years, data and telecommunications networks have been a part of every Long & Associates project. As network installation standards have evolved, we have worked with our clients to implement the latest in network topologies starting with the basic Level 3 telecommunications wiring, advancing upward through Category 6e copper networks, and onto multimode and single-mode fiber optic backbones and fiber to the desktop. In addition to telecommunications, networking, and video systems for new construction, Long & Associates has worked with our clients to design and retrofit over 36 school campus sites with fiber optic backbones and Category 5 copper networks.
Recent university and high school projects have included all of the latest technology system requirements from digital telephone systems, VoIP, microwave instructional television (ITFS) to video and data backbones and distribution. The 270,000 sq. ft. Bayshore High School in Manatee County included a complete campus solution involving a 200 station digital telephone system, ATM fiber backbone connecting 13 IDF's and Cat 5 horizontal UTP to every administrative and educational space including six high density computer labs.
Long & Associates worked with the University of Florida to implement telecommunications, networking, teleconferencing and distance learning suites in the 151,000 sq. ft. renovation of Weil Hall on the Gainesville campus.
The 200,000 sq. ft. renovated University of Florida Library West features Wi-Fi Hot Spots, digital card catalog, VoIP, IP based security surveillance, digital studio and internet kiosks.
The Thomas E. Langley Medical Center includes IP based direct digital control of the HVAC environmental systems.
Today's bidding environment and legal issues have brought about a new form of construction delivery system. To meet our clients' changing needs and to provide additional control of the built environment for our clients, we have engaged in providing superior Construction Management services. Long & Associates refers to these services as Total Project Design and Management or TPDM. We have a licensed General Contractor on board and are successfully providing construction management services on projects throughout the Tampa Bay area. In addition, we maintain a significant bonding capacity for such work, which is a rare occurrence among the A/E industry. Long & Associates believes this speaks highly of our outstanding reputation to quality design and construction standards, and the longevity of the firm.
We recognize that our CM services are not for everyone. However, we emphasize that this experience as a CM provides all our clients with a project team that has diversity over other "design only" firms. In addition, our CM involvement keeps us up to date with the costs of the built environment and provides us with excellent contacts in the field. As one big family, all these benefits are shared with our clients for maximum cost advantage.
