UF FL Gym Classroom Conversion

This 148,790 SF building, built in 1949, was converted from athletic use to academic and research use on the interior while the exterior was fully restored to it’s original character.  The renovation included labs, academic offices, multi-media lecture halls, and classrooms created within the former 2-story gym space.

The roof, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were all totally replaced with new modern systems.  The building exterior was rehabilitated, tuck pointed and sealed around its entire perimeter, and windows were replaced with historically accurate profiles.  The project also included removal of asbestos containing materials, correction of all fire code violations, improved handicapped accessibility.  The construction was phased to minimize disruption of programs.

“A/E continues to do a great job in working with a large, difficult, user group and in paying close attention to detail. A complicated renovation project, yet Long is moving the project forward in an organized fashion.”                 – Al Dompe , PM, Facilities Planning & Construction  (retired)
