Safety Harbor Library Addition
Long & Associates developed a building program and a master site redevelopment plan for the Safety Harbor Library, including upgrades to existing systems, additions for children's wing and community spaces, and revised parking and stormwater management.
Long & Associates developed the building program, in concert with library staff, based on an analysis of existing conditions, community use patterns, and the State of Florida Public Library standards. A Master Site Redevelopment Plan was developed to address traffic, parking, open space, utilities, site amenities, integration with Downtown Streetscape systems, and Growth Management Plans of the City of Safety Harbor.
The existing building power requirements were evaluated along with the serviceability of the existing power distribution and lighting systems. The design of the building addition incorporated upgrades to the existing building and exterior lighting, to increase energy efficiency throughout the complex. The existing HVAC system and roof were also replaced. The 9,300 SF additions include a new children’s wing with restrooms, conference rooms, community meeting rooms, work rooms, and staff offices. The 15,970 SF renovation houses a grand lobby rotunda, 120,000 volume collection, 150 patron seats, teen room, and a computer lab.
Site redevelopment included revised parking and traffic circulation, new site and pedestrian lighting, improved and enlarged stormwater management systems to include underground vault storage, and repair of existing infrastructure.
Safety Harbor Library 2nd Floor Addition
In 2006 Long & Associates designed a 9,250 sf addition to the south end of the Safety Harbor library with accommodations for a future 2nd floor expansion. We are now excited to have the opportunity to fulfill that vision with a new 4,800 sf 2nd floor addition. The addition contains a large meeting room and fully equipped break room for community events as well as a Teen room, Deaf Literacy room, and group restrooms. The new spaces will be accessed from a new elevator and stair tower situated to maintain and preserve the existing single controlled point of entry for visitors. The addition will provide much needed space to accommodate the growth and changing needs of the Safety Harbor community now and into the future.
